01. Robert 'Bobby' Louis Drake (AKA Iceman) is mutant with cryokinetic abilities, often using his powers to create ice constructs and freeze enemies in battle. He is one of the original X-Men and, later in life, developed a secondary mutation where he has the ability to turn his entire body into ice. 02. Bobby has joined various super-teams over the years, including the X-Men, the X-Factor, the Defenders, and the Champions of Los Angeles. 03. In recent years, a lot of Bobby's stories have dealt with his personal struggles amongst typical superhero plots. In a 2015 issue of Essential X-Men, it was revealed that Bobby is gay. Since, his stories have featured social struggles involving this topic.
04. Bobby was born in Floral Park, Hempstead, New York to William Robert Drake and Madeline Beatrice Bass-Drake. Bobby was Jewish on his mother's side and Irish Catholic on his father's. 05. Bobby's mutation first emerged at a young age when he found himself unable to stop feeling cold and shivering. A bully, Rocky Beasly, convinced his gang to attack Bobby, who froze Rocky solid. The people of his town, Fort Washington, organised a lynch mob under the belief that he was a danger to them because of his mutant abilities. After Bobby was taken into custody when the local sheriff determined things to be too out of control, Charles Xavier (founder of the X-Men) was notified of his existence.

reccomended reading
ICEMAN solo series VOL 1:
1984-1985
VOL 3:
2017-2018
VOL 1: Solid miniseries and a good introduction to Bobby's family dynamic! My favourite of his solo series.
Limited series, solo. Publication Date: December, 1984—June, 1985VOL 3: Bobby's solo series after his coming out. Cute, fun superhero hijinx, good supporting characters and view of his family dynamic.
Ongoing series, solo. Publication Date: August, 2017—May, 2018
Xmen forever
Vol 1:
#1-#4
ISSUES 1-4: These issues focus on establishing Bobby as an Omega-level mutant. It's so rare for writers to focus on him in team series at all, so having him established at such a high level outside of a solo series is awesome.
Limited series, team. Publication Date: January—June, 2001
Uncanny Xmen
Vol 1:
#311-314
#319
ISSUES #311-314: Emma Frost takes possession of Bobby's body and uses his mutation in ways he hadn't yet pushed himself to. Throughout this era of Uncanny, Bobby focuses a lot on others' ability to utilise his mutation better than he had been thus far.ISSUE #319: Bobby invites Rogue to visit his parents with him. Assuming the two of them are together, Bobby's father expresses his prejudice to the relationship he deems 'abnormal'. Such a good example of Bobby's queer coding and a great representation of the Bobby/Rogue friendship!ISSUES #322-324: After kissing Gambit and rendering him comatose, Rogue goes on a roadtrip with Bobby, who's still haunted by Emma Frost and her possession of his body and his abilities. Another great representation of this fun duo.
